QUICK TIPS FOR LAUNDRY:
If you are a workaholic and a neat freak like me, you’ll know how important laundry is to people like us. The day I got my first washing machine was the day I knew it would be put to the best use leaving aside the electricity bills and inspections every 6 months.
Although I do my own laundry, there are times when I look at my beautiful wardrobe and lose my confidence in washing, cleaning and ironing some of the gorgeous pairs I got my hands on. And that is when I question myself- how to do this and where do I go wrong?
These tips have helped me a lot, and I hope it helps you too:
- Knowing your water temperature-Every cloth works differently. Thus, knowing what temperature suits what fabric is really important. It’s pretty simple- cold water works the best for delicate fabrics, fabrics that might shrink and dark colored clothes that tend to bleed. Hot water works like magic for bedding and towels and clothes with stubborn grime. In the mid way, warm water works well with moderately soiled clothes.
- Selecting the right detergent-We have a habit of following what we saw our mothers using but with various formulas for detergents these days, it is important to know your detergent. Powdered detergents work good on general load but end up leaving white residues on polyester (your gym clothes). On the other hand, liquid detergents are great for pretreating stains. Plus a little goes a long way. It is always good to check the ingredients thoroughly before investing in detergents of any formula to save your clothes.
- Knowing your detergent limits-I have been a victim to thinking that pouring 3 spoonfuls of detergent will remove all the dirt from my clothes and then getting a faded shirt after wash. And this is a very common laundry mistake. Overdosing clothes with detergent allows the soil to get redeposited within them. It is always recommended to use one-half less detergent than the recommended amount. This way, your clothes will look great while you save money.
- Acting quick-This is the key to a successful stain removal. As soon as a stain occurs, soak your garment in cold water, apply a stain remover and get it into the washer.
- Taking care of inner garments-In order to save large bucks on your lingerie shopping every 3 months, it is important to know how to wash them. It is best advised to wash them with your hand under a tap running cold water. If you still want to use the machine, you could put the garments in a mesh lingerie bag and wash it under the delicate cycle.
