Laundry in this pandemic is easy?
As we all are in this pandemic Coronavirus together across multiple cities, nations, and even continents, I feel like putting my genuine point on this question forward about laundry service and tasks which we can do at home.
1. Do not forget to nicely wash your hands with sanitizer
You need to be hygienic always, even while doing the laundry. So, make sure to wash your hands before and after doing the laundry at home. This is because you are touching your dirty clothes, and someone else’s also if you are the head of the house and doing all the laundry by yourself.
2. Check the detergent and its suitability
You need to check the harshness or acidity of the detergent before you use it on different fabrics together. Sensitive fabrics like silk or nylon will suffer from breakages or lower quality after every wash. Their colour might even fade. That is because of the wrong detergent that you are using at the moment.
If you are confused, you can take the help of the laundry service experts near you, or even conduct online research about the detergents and the fabrics together.
3. Make sure you are not washing white clothes together with other colorful clothes
Often the clothes, which were dyed once or twice, have chances to spill those colours out once in a while. And if you are washing white cloth along with the coloured once in your everyday laundry tasks, then these white clothes will be highly prone to colouring or discolouring. This can hamper their beauty at once.
4. Separate the clothes which are smelling a lot from the other clothes while doing laundry
Avoid mixing clothes which smell a lot with the other clothes that are just one or two days old. That is because if you are mixing them together, the clothes which are just one or two days old can get their smell.
Then you will simply end up washing those clothes again, or you will simply get fed up with the entire washing cycle for the day.
5. Hire a laundry professional if you are not fond of laundry
It is true that not everyone loves laundry. But it has to be done regularly, for the sake of hygiene, especially when Coronavirus is going around the world at so much full speed across nations. Thus, you can always hire professional laundry experts to provide you the laundry services near you.
These laundry services should be thoroughly checked by you before the purchase. You should know what these launderers are offering and at what price. In short, make sure these paid laundry services are under your budget and can be reached to your doorstep whenever you want.
6. At what age should children start doing laundry?
I think parents should teach their kids self sufficiency and responsibility early in life. There are ways to teach kids without them knowing your true motives. Teach them what colors should be mixed and how to deal with white clothes. Don’t ask to do laundry on the daily basis but yeah whenever you are tired or if you are busy with some other things then yes tell them confidently to do the laundry. Make them cooperative in doing things like checking pockets and never ask for last minute services.
7. Several things to save time and electricity
1. Always run towels and other bulky items through an extra spin cycle before you put them in the dryer.
2. For kitchen rags and towels, I throw half a cup or so of baking soda in when I wash them. It seems to help remove the grease and yuck that you have in them.
3. For bath towels, I do not use fabric softener in the wash. Extra spin, then a fabric softener sheet in the dryer.
4. For towels that are mildew smelling, I put a tablespoon or so of bleach into the bleach dispenser, then wash as normal. I run these through the dryer twice, to make sure they are fully dry (if they aren’t fully dry, that’s what starts the mildew process).
5. Keep your laundry detergent and other laundry stuff together in an easily accessible place.
6. Do as much of your laundry as you can all at the same time.
7. Fold, hang and put away your laundry as soon as you can.
8. Keep your socks together while washing and in storing. I used safety pins, but more elegant solutions exist.
So the thing with Laundry is that even though you’ve been doing it for years there can be times that your results are just less than perfect.
Here are few tips that I’ve learnt over a period of time
· Make sure you clean your machine before you toss your clothes in it. A lot of times the residue the present inside the machine can get on to your clothes if the machine isn’t clean
· Prefer using liquid detergent over powder ones. and avoid using too much of it. One of the biggest laundry mistakes is using too much detergent. Overdosing detergent will end up creating so many suds that they trap soil allowing it to redeposit on clothes.
· The thing with stains is the sooner you get them out the better it is. Also if after washing or treating the stain you still see a hint of it make sure you don’t put the garment in the dryer
· Turn your dark-colored clothes inside out before washing to avoid it turning dull
· Use cold water it is one of the best ways to avoid all the shrinking and stretching
· Don’t surprise yourself with a tie-die effect on your white shirt. Before you put the clothes in the machine separate all your whites from the coloured ones. And to find out if something is colorfast before you wash it, take a wet a cotton swab and rub it on an inside corner or seam and see if the dye transfers to the swab.
· And if your whites are starting to turn all grey and yellow it’s probably because you are overloading your machine with clothes that are really dirty which is causing the dirt to resettle on mildly soiled clothes making them dull.
Make sure you balance out the load
For your delicates, wash them by hand and use cold water always.
And if you want to avoid all that I’ve just mentioned you can download the Launderette app. It’s one of the best laundry apps that I’ve come across, they have multiple laundries on board that you can choose from depending on your pin code. All you have to do is select one, add your clothes in the cart and schedule a pickup. Their rates are pretty affordable.
In this pandemic take care of your clothes and yourself!
