By adminblog

As the world has come to a halt, everyone is home-bound trying to save the world in this period of a global pandemic. This does not mean life has to pause too. What can you do to keep your mind occupied during this perilous time? Laundry is also a part of our routine. To make it simple here are some laundry hacks.

There are several posts on social media on things to do to kill boredom. However, staying in also means there is a lot of household chores that you need to tend to. A lot of dishes to be cleaned and clothes to be washed which are essential and can’t be ignored no matter the situation.  So here are some tips to make things easier and less time-consuming.

Laundry during pandemic

Amid coronavirus scares, it is better to make sure your clothes are not only clean looking but also free from germs. There is no evidence to prove that the virus does not spread through clothes. When you go out to stock up on essential supplies, it is possible to come in contact with an affected person unknowingly. Though the chemicals in detergent might kill the virus, better be safe than sorry!  Soaking your clothes in a disinfectant like Dettol before washing. Also, add sanitation as the final step.

It is also advised to not shake the dirty laundry while loading it in the machine. This might lead to the virus dispersing through the air. Refrain from touching your face throughout the process. Wash your hands properly using a hand wash after dealing with dirty laundry. Use warm water for washing clothes and make sure they are entirely dry before putting them in the closets.

Now moving on to general tips for washing different types of fabrics and clothes.

If your towel is not as soft and absorbent as before, all it takes is two washes in hot water to bring back the shine. First, wash it in hot water with vinegar and second with baking soda. This restores the absorbency of the towel and helps get rid of the stink.

The T-shirt you tried on in the store doesn’t fit you after a few washes? Fret not! There is a remedy to fix this. Just soak it in lukewarm water and baby shampoo. Gently stretch the piece of clothing while working through to relax the fibres. You can also use ordinary hair conditioner to substitute the baby shampoo. This will bring back the shrunken piece of clothing to its original shape!

Pay attention to what the tags on your clothes are trying to say.

Most people often neglect this but this could be the secret for your favorite shirt to last long. Decode the tags and follow them to make your clothes stay as good as new.

To prevent fading of your clothes, add a teaspoon of salt in your regular wash. This also protects new clothes from bleeding colour on the first wash. Wash dark clothes inside out to keep them from fading.

This might not sound important but your washing machine needs some regular cleaning too. To make sure your washing machine is working to its potential, make sure to clean it. There are different ways to clean a top-loading and a front-loading machine. Google can help!

Did you know that laying sweaters flat while drying helps them keep their shape intact?

Now you do, so try it out for yourself!

Keeping white clothes looking white is a major challenge in every household. If you are one of them, we got you covered! Use warm water for washing whites. Do not mix them with soiled clothes as this dirt may resettle on the whites. Soak them separately to remove some of the dirt particles before adding them to the machine. Boil water with a few slices of lemon and soak your whites in this for an hour before washing. This helps in removing the dullness of the white apparels.

Similarly, blacks can as well fade and cause trouble. Adding two cups of black coffee or tea incorporates a natural dye and helps in reviving the colour of the clothes. Although, make sure you use it exclusively for black clothes.

Fabric softener

While most of us skip this step, it might be critical. Adding a fabric softener can do wonders for your fabric. It might even help you skip the ironing step. So, make sure to spend that extra ten bucks!

Use a mesh laundry bag to prevent small items from going missing. It works for socks or inner wears and even baby clothes if any. Even soft toys can be washed in a similar manner.

Segregating laundry before wash helps save a lot of time and effort. Use different baskets for different kinds of fabric and habituate everyone at home to separate their dirty clothes based on factors like fabric, color , etc.

For everyday stains like yellow armpits, use a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda to scrub the sweat stain before throwing it into the washer.

Hope this gives you some extra time for that new hobby you always wanted to start!
