Unique is the fabric, so is the method

By adminblog

Unique!! At the time we are confused about how certain kind of fabric is supposed to be treated (taken care of) while washing and it’s pretty common. But of course, we cannot treat all kinds of fabrics in the same way as they have been made from different kinds of material and diverse manufacturing processes and they may tend to react to different procedures in a different manner. (and there are very high chances that they may react differently to different manufacturing process)

Bifurcating the fabric is important as you’ll get to know how different kind of fabrics are supposed to be treated even if they have the same problem, for an instance while having a dinner you spilled soup on your shirt as well trouser and they are of two different material you wash both of them by different methods, though they have the same stain, as nature of your fabric is different.

Now let’s see about how to deal with different fabrics in different scenario.

COTTON

If you surf around the market most common material you’ll find is cotton, though they are further segmented according to their use for eg: Broadcolth for shirting and suiting, Canvas for cushions and shower curtains and Damask for table linens and the varieties flows on. Most of the time they are soft and fluffy fiber though the washing procedure of cotton is not much complex.

You can take following measures

  • Conveniently wash them in machines.
  • You can use either warm water or cold, avoid using hot water.
  •  Preferably you can use regular detergent.
  • Use regular wash cycle but while tumble drying use low settings.
  • After drying remove the cloth from dryer to avoid wrinkles.

SYNTHETIC FABRIC

Synthetic fabric is either made from the blend of chemicals consisting properties of natural material like cotton and silk. They are generally made from the inorganic products or mixture of organic and chemical products.

Take following steps as they are considered the best way to treat the fabric.

  • Machine wash is the most advisable way for synthetic fabric.
  • Fabric softeners can help a lot to retain the quality of cloth.
  • Use warm water setting, make sure it doesn’t tur too hot.
  •  As acrylics are heat sensitive tumble dry them at low temperature.
  • Make sure you remove them from the dryers as soon as the job is done to avoid wrinkles.

WOOL

Wool is another unique material, it is a textile fiber that is obtained from sheep and other animals. We do not use it throughout the year and neither do we wash it frequently. So one thing we should take care of that whenever we wash it we follow the proper procedure to retain its quality.

Following things should be kept in mind while washing a woolen cloth.

  • Wash darks and lights separately.
  • Use gentle detergent.
  • Make sure you turn the garment inside out before washing it.
  • Before you put garment in the machine do soak it with cold water.
  • Minimize agitation in machine.
  • Never tumble dry.

Another option for washing woolen clothes can be air dry.

SILK

Silk is natural protein fiber and some forms of which can be woven into textile. Hence it is one of the most expensive fabrics, for long lasting and maintaining elegance of this material you should treat it with utmost care.

You can take following steps.

  • Read the care label carefully
  • Test for color fastness and take care if it bleeds.
  • Be as gentle as possible and do not concentrate on one single area.
  • Avoid using dryer.

LINEN

Linen is widely used in summers, it is one of the expensive fabric and deserves to be taken utmost care of. The reason behind it is that it’s highly laborious and made out of fiber of flax paint, hence it ends up drying faster and being stronger, absorbent as compared to cotton.

Take following measures while treating this kind of material.

  • Make sure you wash it in lukewarm temperature not too hot, nor too cold.
  • If you are washing clothes in the machine, it should be in a gentle cycle.
  • Use maximum water level which will avoid shrinking.
  • Do not over the crowed machine with too many items at once. This will help you avoid twisting and pulling of linen fabric out of shape.
  •  While washing the clothes with hand avoid wringing, twisting, or scrubbing the fabric.

RAYON

Rayon is basically made out of the wood pulp and other agro-based products. It has versatile enough texture which can easily imitate cotton, wool, silk, and linen. Yet rayon is a very delicate fabric and treating it can be a bit tricky. Though the procedure is very basic but should be taken utmost care of.

Consider the following steps.

  •  The intensity of detergent should be mild.
  •  Use cold water to avoid it from shrinking.
  •  The cycle type should be gentle.
  •  Avoid machine drying as much as possible.
  •  For taking utmost care practice hand washing.

So now you must have realized how different fabrics are made from totally distinctive raw materials, having a unique procedure of manufacture and hence should be treated accordingly suiting their nature. The life of the fabric highly depends upon the way you handle it and the efforts you put in to maintain the basic nature of the fabric. No matter how expensive or branded the fabric is, if you don’t take care of in an appropriate manner you may lose the elegance and look of the fabric and there are even chances it may lose its basic shape.Â
