Therefore, most manufacturers include a care instruction in the product label/tag. This care instruction will also indicate the kind of material(s) the satin is made from. Checking the tag/label will give you a better idea of how-to best care for your product.
Always read the Care Instruction
It is always very important to read the care instruction on the product label/tag. Most manufacturers will always provide you with the best ways to wash your material. For those who are new to the area of laundry, it is important to follow these instructions. Except if you are a professional with a lot of experience, where the care instruction says dry clean, it is important to keep to the instruction.
For most professionals, hand washing is the preferred option when it comes to caring for the satin. This is because it is gentler to the fabric than machine wash.
Cleaning Satin Fabric (Do’s & Don’ts):
Do’s:
- Satin items should be washed by the delicate cycle of your washer.
- Use gentle detergent with cold water for better washing experience.
- Lay the clothe flat on a clean, dry towel, and roll the towel and apply pressure to squeeze out water. Remove item and finish air drying.
- Satin clothes should be ironed on a medium/light setting. Iron the clothes inside-out with quick strokes, never allowing the iron to stay too long on any one spot.
- Store Satin bedding in an air-tight container placed in a cool dark place.
- Extremely delicate satin should dry-cleaned to avoid spoilage.

Dealing with any form of stains:
If satin becomes stained it can be very difficult to get the stain out. Avoid bleach when attempting to remove stains from satin. Try to treat the stain as quickly as possible before it sets. Use a stain remover that is safe for satin fabric such as White Wizard spot remover to pretreat the stain before hand washing.
Blood Stain:
Satin is a delicate fabric it should be handled with care. Use only gentle removal agents like the salt paste and cold water. That will often do the trick.
Oil Stain:
It is better to launder oil-based stains in hot water to lift the grease from the fabric properly. If you do not have a strong detergent, make a paste with powdered detergent and water. Apply the paste to the stain before laundering. Skip the dryer and hang the satin clothes to dry.
Coffee Stain:
The best method to remove coffee stains from silk is to mix same amount of distilled white vinegar and water. Lay a clean white rag under the stained area. Dip a corner of a clean white rag into the vinegar/water solution. Carefully blot the stained area, working from the center to the edges.
Stain due to Dirt:
Before getting rid of dust stains from your satin, it is important to get rid of excess debris. This will reduce the chances of the dust spreading on the material. You can do this by using a brush with a soft bristle.
Drop a tiny amount of mild liquid soap to the affected spot and rub gently with a soft cloth until suds appear. Use soft material to gently dab the spot to lift the stain off the fabric. Repeat this process as required to get rid of all the stains.
Wine Stain:
Soak a clean white cloth with club soda or white vinegar and blot the stain. Continue blotting until you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, being careful not to get the dress any wetter than necessary.
