WASH CARE FOR DIFFERENT FABRICS

By adminblog

There is an unimaginably long list of different types of fabric used in clothes. Cotton, silk, polyester, linen, wool, and whatnot. Different fabric has different kinds of properties with a different suitable environment. Cotton is preferred in Summers and Woolen is preferred in Winters. In the same manner, every fabric requires a different kind of treatment and care for keeping them in their top-notch condition. So, here is an article explaining wash care for different types of fabrics.

COTTON :

Cotton is a fabric loved by people from every part of the world and by people of every age. It is a versatile fabric that is preferable to use in the summers. Cotton is a natural fabric. Cotton usually shrinks on washing. Reading the label carefully can provide correct information. Tumble drying or machine drying cotton fabric is ok. The color of the garment matters too. Light-colored fabrics can be washed in warm water. To avoid fading and losing its quality dark colored fabrics should be washed in cold water. Taking such precautions would help you maintain your favorite cotton garments in their best condition,

SILK :

Silk is silk and nothing can replace it. Women love silk and silk loves to care. Silk is one of the oldest natural fabrics. It is abundantly used in the Indian garment industry. Silk fabric tends to contract on washing. Handwashing silk fabric is preferrable as machine washing it can damage the fabric. But for clarification, it is always better to look out for the wash care mentioned on the label by the manufacturer. Using of bleaches or chlorine-based detergents is strictly inadvisable. Mild shampoos can be used as a cleansing agent, but any kind of conditioner would damage the fabric. Dry cleaning though is the best method for cleaning a silk fabric. Tumble or machine drying the fabric would not give good results. Air drying is the best way to dry silk fabrics.

WOOL :

Getting tucked in natural woolen sweaters in winter is a beautiful feeling altogether. But, then watching your favorite woolen wears getting damaged while washing them hurts a lot too. Wool is washable, but woolen wears usually aren’t. The way they are weaved makes it difficult to clean woolen wears. Washing them using gentle detergents and hand washing is advised. Tumble drying is prohibited as it can stretch the fabric permanently. So, washing woolen wear gently is always preferable. Taking these precautions during washing woolen fabric can help you maintain them in good quality for a long time duration.

POLYESTER :

Polyester is a synthetic fiber made of long-chain polymer. It is either independently used for making fabrics or is blended with natural fabrics. This also makes polyester a cheaper alternative to natural fabric yet giving it the feel and look of natural fabric. Polyesters can be either hand washed or machine washed in warm water. But the use of hot water should be avoided to prevent the fabric from getting damaged. Polyesters are nothing but plastic polymers. So, if ironing polyester fabric is required, do it under low temperature only otherwise it will meltdown under the iron.

LINEN :

It is a natural fabric. Linen garments are nowadays a hot pick amongst young men due to their look and feel. Checking the manufacturer’s logo for the proper washing method before directly washing it is advisable. Linen is a water-absorbent and absorbs more water while the washing process as compared to other fabrics. Ironing linen fabric from outside would result in the fading of colors.Iron the fabric from inside. It is also advisable to steam iron the fabric for better results. Using these precautions while the laundry of linen fabrics would help you maintain its brightness and texture.

DENIM :

These fabrics are favorites among people of all ages. Denim fabric came into existence with the industrial revolution where the workers needed cheap yet strong material for their garments. Denim garments look fashionable as well. But, they maintain their look only if they are taken care of. It is usually suggested to hand wash denim fabrics. Harsh detergents or bleaches can damage the fabric. Wash denim fabric with a gentle fabric. Air drying denim is preferable. For drying denim, turning it inside out would be useful to avoid the fading of colors. In this way, you can maintain the quality of denim for a long period of time.
