A quick stains removal guide to help you deal with stains you encounter almost every day!

Almost any activity we do daily – be it eating food, having a good drink, trying out that new make-up or any household stuff like wax, ink – can leave you with a seriously annoying stain! Often these stains just don’t go in a simple detergent wash, which is why here’s a quick DIY guide to help you get them right-away!

Quick stains removal guide:

  1. Food-related Stains –In this guide, we’re separating the food stains from the drinks related stains, which will be covered in the next section. So, in the food stains, we have the following mostly encountered stains:
    1. Chocolate stains –First you’ve got to remove the excess or leftover chocolate with a knife or a spoon. Next, you’ll need a simple soap solution – 1 tablespoon dish soap in 300mL water. Spray the stain with this soap solution and then finally dab with a detergent.
    1. Bubble Gum stains – First we need to freeze the gum stain as much as possible – using some ice cubes. Once frozen enough, simply remove the leftover gum stain with a knife or spoon. Next, in order to loosen the leftover stain, apply some glycerin or any other lubricant, and scrape it off. Finally rinse it and dab with soap if need be.
    1. Ice Cream – Firstly, rinse the stain with some cold water and then apply some stain remover like Vanish. Finally, fill in a small tub/bucket with some more cool water and soak the clothes in detergent for 10 mins before the final wash.
  2. Drinks related Stains –In this section, we have:
    1. Coffee Stains – Firstly, take the stained cloth with its stain part stretched over a bowl. Next, pour some boiled water over this stain, slowly, from a foot above. Follow this with a rinsing of the stained part with any oil solvent in case the coffee had some milk; if there was sugar in the coffee, then follow the hot water pouring with a pre-treatment product like Vanish. Finally, let it soak in the warm water for 30 min before washing.
    1. Juice(y) Stains – Firstly, use the soap solution and apply it thoroughly on the stained area. Next, blot carefully on that area to remove the stain and also the soap that was applied earlier. Finally, if the stain still persists, blot the stained area using a warm towel and some ammonia-water solution in a 1:2 ratio.
  3. Make-up related Stains –Here we cover the following kinds:
    1. Nail Polish stains – First, place the stained part of the clothing faced downwards on to a tissue or any disposable towels. Next, apply nail polish remover on the backside of the stain. You’ll have to keep replacing the tissue papers frequently to soak up the nail polish coming out. Repeat this process till the stain is gone, and finally, rinse the cloth in cool water.
    1. Lipstick Stains – First, in this specific case, you’ll have to spray the stained spot with any hair spray available. You’ll need to let it sit for about 10 minutes. Next, you need to wipe the stained area with a clean damp cloth, till you’ve removed all the stained marks. Finally, give the cloth a good wash.
    1. Foundation Stains – You’ll need some surgical spirit/ rubbing alcohol in this case. First, apply this rubbing alcohol on the stain with a swab or ear-bud. Then, use another fresh piece of cotton ball/cloth to blot this stained area. Repeat till the stain is gone and wash the cloth.
  4. Certain Household materials related Stains –In this, we’ll be discussing the following situations:
    1. Paint related Stains –First, use a tissue/disposable towel to wipe off the leftover dried paint on the stain. Next, make some detergent solution using about 1:2 ratio in warm water. Now take this solution, and using a soft sponge, gently apply this solution all over the stained area. After the paint in the satin is softens, use a knife or spatula to remove the paint. Rinse the cloth after that and repeat the same process until the cloth is stain free. Finally, give the cloth a good wash.
    1. Ink Stains – Firstly, you’ll have to contain the stained are when it comes to pen related in stains. Use some petroleum jelly to completely encircle the stain so that it won’t spread while cleaning. Next, take a soft toothbrush, and apply the rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit on the stained area using the brush. Now keep this cloth under a fan to let it dry, while simultaneously dab the area with a cotton cloth/ball and some mineral spirits. Once this is done, let it dry for some time. Next, rinse the area with a soap solution (1 tablespoon soap liquid in 300mL water). Once the stain is no longer visible, wash the cloth for final finishing.
    1. Wax related Stains –First, use some ice and rub over the stained part to freeze and remove the leftover wax in the area. Once frozen enough, use a knife to chip away this wax and make it as smooth as possible. Next, stretch this piece of cloth over a bowl and slowly pour some hot water from a feet’s height on to the stained area. Finally wash the cloth in warm water.
    1. Underarm yellowing Stain – Firstly, if the stain is a fresh one, take a cotton cloth and dab the stained area with some shampoo. This should help to clear the stain. In case of an old stain, make a small amount of paste by crushing about 3-4 digestive enzyme tablets and mixing some water in it, and apply this paste on the stained area. Once applied, let the area sit for one hour, and then wash away the cloth in warm water. This should make it much better!    Â
