1. Get Your Clothes Washing Machine Ready:
Before you start a load of laundry, you need to make sure there’s nothing in there that could cause harm to your clothes or your machine. For e.g. Check pockets of jeans and trousers so that you don’t accidentally leave money in the pockets. Belts, pins, buttons, buckles all need to be removed. If there’s anything with a Velcro close that too.
2. Keep Track of Your Socks:
Keep losing socks? Don’t fret. The key to keeping socks safe is to collect them before washing. You can invest in a separate bucket or clothes holder to keep your socks. Or another way is that you tie your socks together and keep them in pairs or just push one sock into the other one of the pair. And after you’re done with laundry, do this with clean socks too before storing them.
3. Invest in Multiple Hampers:
You need to keep your loads separate. The more separations, the better. Separate whites from coloured, heavy loads should be kept separate from light loads and since you need to wash them in different cycles, if you keep them separated in the first place, it will save the time of having to sort through piles when washing.
4. Take Out of Stains BEFORE Washing:
Most of us think washing machines will take out the stains since that’s what their purpose is. But washing machines don’t really take out stains all that well and to make sure the stain is completely removed, scrub out the stained part of the clothes before washing it as normal with all other clothes.
5. Clean Rugs and Curtains:
Curtains and rugs faded? Lost their shine? Next time when you’re washing them, just add 1/3 cup of salt in the water while washing them. This will make them bright again.
6. Smelly Clothes?
Just add ½ cup baking soda to a gallon of water and soak your smelly clothes in this for two hours. Then simply add ½ cup white vinegar to the rinse cycle while machine washing them. This should get rid of the unpleasant odours. Mind you, this is for extremely bad-smelling clothes.
7. Washing Machine Needs to be Kept Clean:
If you’re washing clothes in a dirty machine, your clothes will get dirtier instead of cleaner. You don’t need to clean your machine after every cycle, but every two or three months are ideal to give your machine a quick clean.
8. Turn Clothes Inside Out:
Heartbroken over the fate of your jeans? Just turn them inside out while washing them. This should prevent any rips and tears in the fabric.
9. Cold water can Save Your Darker Clothes:
If you wash your clothes in cold water, it will prevent clothes from fading. Coldwater is used to set dyes to clothes. So, if you wash your darker coloured clothes in cold water, it will not only prevent fading, it will also help bind that colour to your clothes so they appear even brighter than before.
10. Check the Temperature of Your Water:
It may sound weird, but not all detergents work in all temperatures. So, before you put your detergent in hot water, check the label and instructions on the detergent and set your cycle accordingly.
11. Dry Your Sweaters Flat:
Easily stretchable items should be dried on a flat surface. For instance, sweaters. Spread them out on
a flat surface to dry because even a little tugging can cause a lot of harm to your delicate sweaters.
12. Don’t Overdose on Detergent:
This is a classic mistake everyone makes. There’s only a small amount of detergent required for a specific amount of load and if you exceed that, you can cause untold damage to your clothes. So, make sure you’re following the instructions given on the label carefully and use only the required amount of detergent.
13. Take Extra Good Care of Delicates:
Wash your delicate undergarments by hand in warm water. Without using too much force. Or if you want to use a machine, then buy a good quality mesh bag and put all your delicate in it and use the delicate setting on the machine.
14. Read Labels on Clothes:
Always pay attention to whatever the labels on the clothes tell you. If it says hand washes only, you better believe it. Or you’ll ruin your new clothes. And if it says dry clean only, then give it for dry clean.
I hope, you got my point. If you never did this before don’t worry. follow these proper instructions step by step, you will become a laundry Wizard. You can improve your working efficiency and effort which will be really helpful for you.
