Promising Treatment?
While the governments all around the world are taking serious measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, scientists and researchers are doing there working hard to find and make a vaccine for this pandemic. There are rumors of various treatments that could serve as a potential remedy for this virus but it is going to take a fair amount of time to test and get it approved for human trials.
Medication like Hydroxychloroquine can be a viable cure for this virus but a specific dosage and a proper way to use it to disinfect is yet to be known. Using this medication fon virus-infected patients without any prior confirmation of any test cases can prove to be fatal and life-endangering. There are many rumored treatments listed online but none of them have any solid proof backing them.
Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine:
The researchers in many countries are testing a century-old (1920) tuberculosis vaccine to see if it can give a boost to the immune system to help it fight off the COVID-19. Trails of this vaccine are planned to be started in Europe and Australia to record if this treatment can help eradicate COVID-19. If this works it could be a relief for all the frontline workers looking after all the infected people all around the world. Though it is not clear how a vaccine meant to fight bacteria can help bring down a virus.
A separate study is said to be conducted on older patients and medical staff in countries like Germany, Greece, the UK, and the Netherlands. Even though it helps the immune system to an extent, it does not promise to tackle all the effects of coronavirus and can be used as a temporary remedy (after the test results come out) to reduce the spread of the novel virus till a proper medication is discovered.
In countries like India, China, etc., this medication is given to newborns which helps them to reduce the chances of suffering from tuberculosis. It can be a reason that the USA and Italy are hit hard because they do not implement universal BCG vaccination policies. This is the reason why this vaccine is looked upon as a potential option to fight COVID-19.
So it is requested that people should not try and use any vaccine that they read about online. There are researches and tests going on to find out a promising vaccine that can help us fight this pandemic. Using medication that has no prior proof to help curb this virus can be lethal and can also cause loss of life. Using masks and washing hands is a known way to prevent this virus.
