What is Dalgona Coffee that the Internet can’t stop talking about?

By adminblog

The latest viral trend on social media is Dalgona coffee. From Instagram to Whatsapp, people can’t stop sharing pictures of this delicious looking coffee.

As India entered into the second week of lockdown, to tackle COVID-19, there is a new viral thing called Dalgona coffee that looks like a cappuccino turned on its head, with the frothy coffee on top and the milk underneath. By now most of us are probably short on ingredients, but this drink only needs 3 ingredients to make.

  • Instant coffee granules
  • Water
  • Sugar

If you mix two tablespoons of each ingredient and then start whipping it, eventually, the dark watery paste turns into a thick whipped cream mixture, which you can add to cold or hot milk for an iced coffee or latte-style treat.

Dalgona coffee is currently featured in more than 91,000 posts on Instagram alone. Inspired by a retro South Korean candy by the same name, this is proving to be an ideal quarantine project, as it demands more optimism than skill.

Where did it Origin From?

The beverage’s origins can be traced to the Indian subcontinent, where it is called phenti hui (“beaten coffee”, “whipped coffee”), and has long been popular there before being viral on social media.

You must be wondering why it is named ‘Dalgona Coffee’?

Dalgonais the name of the South Korean version of honeycomb toffee candy. It was made popular by Jung II-woo, a South Korean actor who visited Macau where he was served the drink, and later presented it on a South Korean TV show called Pyunstorang (“Fun-Staurant”). Other sources state that it originated from a South Korean Youtube channel before going viral on TikTok.

Dalgona is a Korean snack that is often eaten by children. It is also known as Honeycomb toffee or sponge toffee. It is made from brown sugar, corn syrup, and baking soda. The hard candy is heated up and cooled to become hard. Residents of Seoul have combined this with coffee to make a latte combination that is amazing!
