PM CARES Fund announced by PM Modi to combat Covid-19
PM Modi urges people to contribute to the PM-CARES Fund to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic that has claimed 27 lives in India and over 33,500 across the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a charitable fund under the name of ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’, where people can contribute and help the government to fight against coronavirus. Since the announcement, a large number of Indians including professionals, business owners, and civil servants came forward to donate.
In a series of tweets, Mr. Modi said, “People from all walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19. Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India,” he said.
In another tweet, PM Modi appealed to the citizens saying: “Kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations if they occur in the times ahead. This link has all the important details about the fund.

PM Modi further said, “The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.”
“Let us leave no stone unturned to make India healthier and more prosperous for our future generations,” PM Modi said.

The release further said that the “donations to this fund will be exempted from income tax under section 80(G)”.
Follow the steps below to make a contribution for PM CARES FUND via online payment method:
1. Visit pmindia.gov.in.
2. Click on ‘Click Here For Donation Details’.
3. Either use the QR code generated or click on ‘Click Here For Online Donation’.
4. Check the box and ‘proceed’.
5. Select ‘Donation’ in the payment category drop-down. The form appears and needs to be filled. Click Submit once filled.
6. Confirm your details in the Confirmation screen.
7. A list of payment options appears. Pick the one that’s suitable to you and ‘Click Here’ at the relevant option.
8. Complete your payment. You will be redirected to the invoice page after you are done.
The government said the primary objective of the fund is to deal with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected people.PM Modi is the chairman of this trust and its other members include the Defense Minister, Home Minister, and Finance minister.
