Coronavirus has four stages. where do you think India stands at?
The total cases in India has reached to 519. Twenty new cases, ten deaths so far and 40 recovered. According to The Indian Council of Medical Research, India is at Stage 2 and there are no cases of community transmission, so far. What are the other stages of the outbreak? let’s know more about the different stages of the coronavirus outbreak.
Stage 1 – Imported Cases:
The stage where the infection is only limited to those who have traveled to virus affected countries and have tested positive. In this case, all the countries outside of China which started reporting cases of coronavirus reached Stage 1 of the outbreak.
Stage 2 – Local Transmission:
This stage indicates when the infection is locally transmitted. The transmission is either from those who are close to the family of the infected person or the person they come in contact with. In this case, we can find the source of the spread, as it is from the country itself.
Stage 3 – Local Transmission:
This stage refers to community transmission where it becomes hard to find the source of the infection spread. When a country is under stage 3, it means that it can infect any person who neither traveled to a virus hit country nor had any contact with an infected person. Lockdown is the best way to stop the spread of the virus as any person can spread it. Countries like China, Italy, and the UK have already reached Stage 3 of the outbreak.
Stage 4 – Epidemic:
The fourth stage is when the disease is considered an epidemic and it keeps resurfacing.
India is at stage 2 of the outbreak
India is currently at Stage 2, to avoid it from entering Stage 3, the government has taken some measures like social isolation, where PM Narendra Modi has appealed all citizens of India to practice Janta Curfew. The main aim of this curfew is to encourage people to adopt social distancing and to control the number of coronavirus positive cases that are rapidly growing in the country. If any person violates self-quarantine measures, legal actions are taken.
As this curfew was well-received by all citizens, now India has announced lockdown for 21 days, which will come into effect at midnight on Tuesday. All essential services like groceries, dairy, ATMs, pharmacies, and medical services will be available during this 21-day nationwide lockdown.
PM Modi said, “If you won’t follow this lockdown for 21 days then your family may face setback of 21 years, some families will be devested forever”.
